MINNESOTA SOFTBALL SELECTS

Registrations are by coaches nominations only.  Once the registrations close,  please be patient while we process the nominations.

Minnesota Softball Selects is a program that recognizes hard work and leadership on every community team in the state. Each coach can nominate two players for this event. 

Information on the selects weekend including the process, the timeline and the schedule of events can be found here. Before parents or coaches’ email, text or call us please review the selects home page. Rosters will be posted on your dashboard.  Click on the team for entire Roster.  Schedules will be posted there too.  There may be slight adjustments depending on if conflicts are found.

Coaches, we are always looking for more volunteer coaches.  If you signed up to coach, please go to your dashboard and check under 'My teams' to see if we have you listed yet.  You will be assigned a team.  If you want to coach specific age level and the team you want to coach only has 1 coach assigned please send us an email.  Just state: Age and team you want to coach, your name, contact information, shirt size and the email attached to your account.  I will add you.

Coaches, the nomination form will be on your dashboard on July 1st.  We have extended the the deadline to nominated to Thursday July 25th.  We want all the 14U and HS teams to have extra time to nominate since their state is finishing up on July 21st. NO EXCEPTIONS!  Please don't call, email, text.  We ended up with 864 players and only one week to process the players plus schedules. 

Parents, after a coach has nominated your daughter the nomination to accept will be found on your dashboard.  

• Parents need to accept and pay for the nominations by 11:59pm on July 25th.  This date was also extended.  Email me if you need assistance tbye@josoftball.com.  I will turn on momementarily if necessary for the 26th only.  We are already 5 days behind processing teams.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Minnesota Softball Selects is a program that recognizes hard work and leadership on every community team in the state. Each coach can nominate two players for this event.

The Process

• Coaches nominate two (2) players on their team.  The nomination form will be the coaches dashboard starting on July 1st.
• Parents have the option to participate in the event. If they do, the cost is $85 per player. If your daughter is nominated and cannot attend the whole weekend, that is a good reason why you should turn down the nomination and let your coach know and have them nominate a different player.
• After registration closes, teams will be formed based on age and positions played indicated on the parent form.
• Starting on July 26th, we will be getting information to Taho Sportswear to process the teams that will be formed and participating.
• Teams will be posted by Wednesday, July 31st by 3:00pm. Rosters will be posted on your dashboard.  Click on the team for entire Roster.  Schedules will be posted there too.  There may be slight adjustments depending on if conflicts are found.
• Coaches will be assigned to teams after they are formed.  If we are short coaches we will send out a coaching request.  Expect to hear from your coach by August 5th.
• FLEXX schedules will be posted by August 5th.

Your Help

• Players can expect to be separated. We are trying to create equal teams. The kids are capable of making new friends and will. Parents should not ever call our office. Work through your directors.
• We create events like this to highlight athletes accomplishments. We don't: 
  • Base our team formation on carpooling.
  • Base our team formation on friends or current teammates.
  • Base our team formation or scheduling around your players 'other' activities.
• This is a 3 day event.  If you knew you had conflicts you should have take this into consideration before accepting this nomination. Please don't email, text or call and say, 'I thought I would ask anyways'

The Timeline

• Nominations start on July 1st.
• Registrations close on July 25th (extended).
  
• Parents need to accept and pay for the nominations by 11:59pm on July 26th (extended).
• Teams will be posted by July 31st.  Players may be reassigned to other teams to balance teams or to accomodate adding a new coach.
• Schedules will be posted by August 5th.
• FLEXX schedule will be posted by August 5th.
• We need to hear from more volunteer coaches to make this event successful.
• Coaches will be notified of their teams by Monday, August 5th or sooner once we have coaches in place.
• Parents, players should be notified by their coach by August 6th.  It will be a simple introduction.  Expect to be at the park by 5:00pm on Friday to find your team regardless if you have heard from your coach or not.
  
• Coaches, please check in at registration.  Pick up your uniforms, coaches shirts and Selects medals.

Schedule of Events - THIS IS A THREE (3) DAY EVENT!

• Opening ceremonies and check-will be at the Andover High School stadium.   
• Friday 5:00PM - Team check in, pickup shirts, meet your coaches and teammates.  Last year we had 77 teams and 904 players to check in. Please come early to find your team.  We will have team numbers lining the fence line for each age group. Players do NOT check in at the desk, only coaches. You will also use the the team number for your team photo.
  
• Friday 6:00PM - Minnesota Softball Select player and coach introductions. Bring your team # sign and line up for your team photo.  This will be done immediately after being introduce in the stadium.  
  
• Friday 6:35PM - Welcome message and speeches.
• Friday 6:45PM - National Anthem.
  
• Saturday 8:00AM - Games begin. Games will be played at either Sunshine Park or at Andover's Varsity fields.
• Saturday 8:00AM - Flexx player evaluations begin. Your team will be scheduled for a time to do your evaluations. (Saturday Only) will be at the Andover High School Fields.
• Saturday 7:30PM - Games End.
• Sunday 8:00AM - Games begin.
• Sunday 7:30PM - Tournament Ends.

What role should youth sports play?

According to leaders in youth development, youth sports should provide opportunities for exercise, making friends, gaining competence, building confidence, learning about teamwork, taking risks, developing character and self-discipline.

The lasting value of participating in sports comes from helping our young people learn to Become Their Best.  All programs should be held to this standard.

Young people should learn to:

• Be RESILIENT – Acknowledge that failure will happen, not to fear it, learn from it and get better – move forward, don't quit.
• Be RESOURCEFUL – Learn to adapt to changing environments, changing personnel, learn to make adjustments, learn to problem solve and think differently.
